WIPO: Cybersquatting Cases Reach New Record in 2018

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) have published a press release which describes how 2018 was a record breaking year for business submitting cybersquatting cases.

The press release states that ‘Trademark owners filed a record number of cases under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) with WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center in 2018’

WIPO go on to detail how ‘disputes involving domain names registered in new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) accounted for 13% of the total, with disputes most commonly found in .ONLINE, .LIFE, and .APP representing 73% of the gTLD caseload.’
