Newsflash: Launch of One and Two-Character Domain Names in .LU

RESTENA DNS-LU, the Registry for .LU domains have announced the launch of one and two-character domain names

Domain names with one and two numeric and/or alpha-numeric characters under .LU will be open for registration, and the following characters will be accepted: a, à, â, ä, æ, b, c, ç, d, e, è, é, ê, ë, f, g, h, i, î, ï, j, k, l, m, n, o, ô, ö, œ, p, q, r, s, t, u, ù, û, ü, v, w, x, y, z, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 excluding the ‘-‘ (hyphen) character.

Please note, this covers only non-existent domain names. Previously registered domain names, as well as reserved names, remain in their current state.

The launch will happen in three phases:

Sunrise: from 31 August to 30 October 2020

  • During this period only Luxembourg companies, or holders of a registered trademark valid in Luxembourg, can apply.
  • The domain name must exactly match the company name or the trademark.
  • The company name or the trademark must have been registered before 31 July 2020

If two or more valid applications are made for the same domain name, it will go to auction and will be granted to the highest bidder.

There is a non-refundable application fee to apply during Sunrise, regardless of whether you are assigned the name or not.

Landrush: from 2 November to 30 November 2020

  • Open to all applicants via an independent online bidding process.

General Availability: from 15 December 2020

  • Unrestricted
